Troops Repel Multiple Terrorist Attacks, Rescue Abducted District Head in Katsina
Troops of Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA have repelled multiple terrorist attacks across Katsina and Zamfara states, neutralised several attackers, rescued an abducted district head, and recovered arms and equipment during a series of coordinated operations.
The military said the operations, conducted on July 2, formed part of sustained offensives aimed at disrupting terrorist activities and improving security across the North West.
In Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State, troops on fighting patrol encountered armed terrorists between Amara and Chakau Junction after the suspects opened fire on the advancing soldiers. Troops returned fire, forcing the attackers to abandon their mission and flee.
Following the engagement, soldiers recovered one AK 47 rifle, a magazine loaded with eight rounds of ammunition, and two motorcycles believed to have been used by the fleeing terrorists.
In another operation around Sabon Garin and Dantakeri villages in Dutsinma Local Government Area, troops, supported by other security agencies and local vigilantes, responded to a terrorist attack and killed one of the assailants during the exchange of fire.
Meanwhile, troops deployed to Farin Hawa Village in Malumfashi Local Government Area responded to reports that armed terrorists riding on motorcycles had abducted the district head, Mubarak Sharin.
The pursuing troops caught up with the fleeing gunmen, killed one of the attackers, disrupted the group's withdrawal, and successfully rescued the traditional ruler.
In neighbouring Zamfara State, troops stationed at Dauran in Bukkuyum Local Government Area repelled another terrorist attack on their position. Reinforced by additional personnel, the soldiers forced the attackers to retreat after a fierce gun battle.
Items recovered after the engagement included one AK 47 rifle, four magazines, 35 rounds of ammunition, a bandolier, and a CamelBak hydration pack.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the courage and professionalism of its personnel and collaborating security agencies, reaffirming its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups and working with local communities to strengthen security across the North West.
