POLICE ARREST 22-YEAR-OLD, RECOVER FIREARMS AND SUSPECTED INDIAN HEMP IN LAGOS
A 22-year-old man, identified as Olamide Suleiman, has been arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command during a stop-and-search operation in the Aguda area of Lagos, where firearms and substances suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered.
The arrest was made along Adetola Road, Aguda, during a routine police operation. According to the police, a search of the suspect led to the recovery of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. Officers also allegedly recovered a locally made pistol loaded with one live cartridge from his bag.
Police said the suspect later told investigators that the pistol belonged to a man identified only as Emir, who was staying at a hotel in Aguda.
Acting on the information, operatives raided the hotel and searched the room allegedly occupied by the suspect. During the operation, they recovered a double-barrel gun. However, Emir reportedly escaped before the officers arrived.
The Lagos State Police Command said investigations are ongoing and efforts have been intensified to track down the fleeing suspect and other members of the alleged criminal gang.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the operatives for their vigilance and reiterated the Command's commitment to combating crime across the state. He also appealed to residents to support the police by providing timely and credible information that could aid crime prevention and the arrest of criminal suspects.
The Command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons, vehicles, or activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines.
