Troops of Sector 1, Operation HADIN KAI, have disrupted a suspected terrorist logistics network in Borno State following an intelligence driven operation that led to the arrest of six suspects and the seizure of a large consignment of materials believed to have been destined for terrorist elements operating in the North East.

According to the military, the operation was conducted at about 4:00 p.m. on 19 July 2026 after credible intelligence identified a suspected terrorist supply route. Troops established a covert stop and search operation along the corridor, intercepting five vehicles allegedly transporting materials intended to support terrorist activities.

The operation resulted in the arrest of six suspected terrorist logistics suppliers.

Items recovered from the suspects included 202 cartons of herbicides, one jerrycan containing a substance suspected to be acid, one Starlink wireless internet communication system, six bags of NPK fertiliser, 10 bags of rice, 50 hoes, and 20 packs of knapsack sprayer pumps.

Military authorities stated that preliminary assessments indicate the recovered items possess potential dual use applications capable of supporting terrorist logistics, mobility, communications, and operational sustainment.

Particular attention is being given to the NPK fertiliser and the suspected acid, which have been earmarked for detailed forensic and technical examination to determine whether they were intended for the manufacture of Improvised Explosive Devices.

The six suspects and all recovered exhibits have been transferred to the appropriate Military Intelligence Regiment for further investigation aimed at identifying the intended recipients, dismantling the wider logistics network, and apprehending additional collaborators and financiers.

From a counterterrorism perspective, the operation illustrates an increasingly important aspect of modern military campaigns. Contemporary terrorist organisations depend not only on armed fighters but also on extensive logistical networks responsible for procuring food, communication equipment, transportation, agricultural supplies, fuel, construction materials, medicines, and chemical substances that sustain insurgent operations.

Disrupting these supply chains weakens the operational capacity of terrorist groups by limiting their ability to communicate, manufacture explosive devices, feed their members, maintain camps, and sustain prolonged operations.

The recovery of a Starlink satellite internet terminal is particularly noteworthy. Satellite based communication systems can provide internet connectivity in remote areas where conventional telecommunications infrastructure is unavailable or unreliable. If intended for terrorist use, such technology could enhance operational coordination, intelligence sharing, and communications while reducing dependence on terrestrial mobile networks. Investigators will therefore be expected to determine the ownership, registration history, usage records, and intended destination of the device.

The military also disclosed that preliminary debriefings of rescued hostages and surrendered terrorist families suggest that sustained attacks on terrorist logistics have substantially reduced the operational effectiveness of insurgent groups. According to the debriefings, persistent shortages of food, medical supplies, communications equipment, and other essential materials have forced many terrorists to abandon hostages, evacuate camps, and surrender under sustained military pressure.

Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling terrorist support networks through intelligence driven operations targeting not only armed fighters but also financiers, logistics suppliers, informants, and collaborators. The military added that denying terrorist groups access to resources remains central to ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and security across the North East.

Members of the public were urged to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence on suspicious persons, movements, and activities, noting that community cooperation remains indispensable to the success of counterterrorism operations.
