OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA: TROOPS RESCUE 10 KIDNAP VICTIMS IN KEBBI, ZAMFARA AND SOKOTO
Troops of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 10 civilians in separate operations across Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States as military forces intensify efforts to protect communities and disrupt terrorist activities in the North West.
In Sokoto State, troops conducting a patrol in Isa Local Government Area on 19 August 2026 encountered a terrorist ambush. The troops engaged the attackers, forcing them to withdraw from the area.
Five civilians were rescued during the encounter and subsequently reunited with their families. Troops also recovered two motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
A day earlier, on 18 August, troops acting on intelligence concerning three kidnapped victims launched a search and rescue operation in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The operation resulted in the rescue of all three victims. They were subsequently profiled and handed over to the appropriate local authorities.
In Zamfara State, troops responded to reported terrorist activity in Tsafe Local Government Area on 18 August. Their rapid deployment forced the terrorists to flee, leaving two captives behind.
The rescued victims had sustained gunshot wounds during their captivity and were immediately evacuated to a medical facility for urgent treatment.
Military authorities said efforts are ongoing to locate and neutralise the fleeing terrorists.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their vigilance and rapid response, while assuring residents that military operations would continue against terrorist elements operating within the Joint Operations Area.
The Command also urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to security forces to assist ongoing operations and improve the protection of lives and property.
