OPERATION HADIN KAI RECORDS FRESH BREAKTHROUGH AS TWO SENIOR TERRORIST COMMANDERS SURRENDER
The Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, says two senior terrorist commanders have surrendered to troops, providing intelligence expected to strengthen ongoing counterterrorism operations across the North East.
According to the military, the two surrendered commanders, identified as Munzirs within the terrorist leadership structure, surrendered to troops of Sector 2 in Geidam on July 4, 2026. They were subsequently moved to Maiduguri, arriving at about 7:30 p.m. on July 5, and are currently in military custody undergoing profiling, debriefing, and intelligence exploitation.
Preliminary interrogation, the military said, indicates that the two commanders occupied influential positions within the terrorist hierarchy and possess extensive knowledge of the group's operational activities, command arrangements, and logistics network.
Operation HADIN KAI disclosed that initial intelligence obtained from the debriefing has already provided valuable information on the terrorists' operational methods, supply mechanisms, and support structures. The information is expected to enhance intelligence led operations aimed at locating, disrupting, and dismantling remaining terrorist enclaves across the North East.
The military described the surrender as another setback for the terrorist group, attributing the development to sustained offensive operations carried out by Operation HADIN KAI in collaboration with partner forces.
According to the statement, the combined effect of coordinated land and air operations, backed by enhanced intelligence activities, has continued to restrict the movement of terrorist elements, degrade their combat capability, and weaken their command and control structures.
The military noted that the sustained operational pressure is increasingly forcing terrorist leaders and fighters to abandon the insurgency and surrender to troops.
Operation HADIN KAI said the latest development further demonstrates the gradual disintegration of the terrorist organisation and reflects the cumulative impact of ongoing military operations across the theatre.
The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations, exploiting actionable intelligence, and working closely with relevant stakeholders until all terrorist elements are neutralised or surrender, with the overall objective of restoring lasting peace, security, and stability across Nigeria's North East.
