OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA RESCUES 13 KIDNAP VICTIMS, FOILS TERRORIST OPERATIONS IN ZAMFARA
Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded another operational success in Zamfara State following intelligence led operations that resulted in the rescue of 13 kidnapped victims and the disruption of terrorist activities in Anka and Kaura Namoda Local Government Areas.
According to the Joint Task Force, troops of Sector 2 deployed from Bagega responded to credible intelligence indicating that armed terrorists travelling on motorcycles were advancing towards Tungan Kudaduku in Anka Local Government Area.
Supported by real time surveillance, the troops tracked the movement of the suspects and engaged them with sustained firepower. Unable to withstand the assault, the terrorists reportedly abandoned their mission and fled the area.
A subsequent exploitation of the location led to the discovery of a makeshift terrorist camp where five kidnapped civilians were rescued unharmed.
In a separate intelligence driven operation at Ungwan Rogo in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, troops acted on reports of terrorist activity within the community. On making contact, the troops engaged the armed group in a fierce exchange of gunfire, compelling the terrorists to retreat and abandon their captives.
The operation resulted in the rescue of eight additional kidnapped victims, while two vehicles believed to have been used during the criminal operation were also recovered.
Military authorities confirmed that all 13 rescued victims have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for medical attention, documentation, and further support before reunification with their families.
From a security perspective, the operations demonstrate the growing effectiveness of intelligence driven military actions in disrupting terrorist mobility and degrading kidnapping networks operating across the North West. The discovery of a makeshift terrorist camp also provides further insight into the methods employed by armed groups to detain victims while negotiating ransom payments or relocating hostages to more secure hideouts.
The use of real time surveillance to monitor the movement of the terrorists illustrates the increasing integration of intelligence and operational planning, enabling troops to respond proactively rather than waiting until attacks are completed.
The recovery of two vehicles may also provide investigative leads capable of identifying logistical networks, movement routes, ownership records, and possible collaborators connected to the criminal group.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA stated that troops have continued domination patrols across the affected areas to prevent the regrouping of terrorist elements and sustain pressure on criminal networks operating within the North West theatre. The latest operation forms part of ongoing efforts to weaken terrorist capabilities, rescue abducted victims, and restore security across communities affected by armed violence.
