TROOPS OF OPERATION HADIN KAI CONTAIN ISWAP ATTACK ON FOB GAJIRAM, NEUTRALISE TERRORISTS, RECOVER WEAPONS
Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, have contained an attack by Islamic State West Africa Province terrorists on the Forward Operating Base in Gajiram, Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack occurred at about 12:20 a.m. on 10 August 2026, when a large group of terrorists launched an assault on the military position in an attempt to overrun the base. The troops responded with sustained fire, forcing the attackers to withdraw after reportedly suffering casualties.
Several terrorists were killed during the engagement, while troops recovered weapons, ammunition and communication equipment. Surveillance footage reviewed after the encounter also showed several casualties being evacuated by the retreating terrorists. The recovered items and footage are undergoing further operational assessment.
A number of troops sustained injuries after part of the base's defences was temporarily breached. Some combat equipment and vehicles were also damaged by Rocket Propelled Grenade fire. The injured personnel were evacuated by air and are receiving medical treatment in stable condition.
Following the attack, troops maintained their positions in and around the Forward Operating Base and adjoining areas to monitor the situation and prevent further attempts by the terrorists to re engage.
Residents of Gajiram and neighbouring communities were advised to remain calm and continue their lawful activities. The military also urged residents to report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies.
Troops remain deployed around Gajiram as exploitation of the operational area continues and further assessment of the terrorists' casualties and activities is conducted.
Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining pressure on ISWAP and other terrorist groups operating in the North East.
