SUSTAINED MILITARY OPERATIONS TRIGGER 213 PER CENT RISE IN TERRORIST SURRENDERS

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have recorded a 213 per cent increase in the number of terrorist fighters and associates surrendering across the North East Theatre of Operations over the past week, according to the Theatre Command.

The increase followed continued military operations targeting terrorist positions, logistics networks and supply routes across the theatre. The operations have involved ground assaults, engagements against identified terrorist positions and efforts to disrupt the movement of weapons, supplies and personnel.

The Theatre Command said the number of surrenders recorded during the period was 213 per cent higher than the figure recorded in the preceding week. It attributed the increase to continued military pressure on terrorist groups operating in the North East.

Two senior members of the terrorist groups also surrendered to troops on 12 August 2026, bringing arms, ammunition and other military items with them. The recovery of the weapons forms part of the military's assessment of the operational effect of the surrenders, although the statement did not provide details of the identities or ranks of the two individuals.

In another development, several terrorist members surrendered to troops of 202 Battalion in Bama on 7 August 2026 at New Abaram. The Theatre Command attributed the surrender to continued military operations and internal disagreements within the terrorist enclave.

The individuals were screened and mobile phones and other items were recovered from them before they were handed over for further processing in accordance with established procedures.

The Theatre Command said the combination of ground operations, attacks on terrorist positions and disruption of logistics and supply networks was restricting the ability of terrorist groups to move, regroup and replenish their resources.

Operation HADIN KAI said it would continue military operations against terrorist groups while maintaining channels for fighters and associates willing to surrender. The Theatre Command also urged members of the public to provide security agencies with timely and credible information on terrorist activities and encouraged members of terrorist groups to abandon violence and surrender through established channels.
