Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, have dealt a significant blow to kidnapping activities in Edo State, rescuing a victim identified as Prince Michael Akao and neutralising three kidnappers during an intelligence led operation in Sasaro Forest, Akoko Edo LGA, on Sunday, 11 October 2026.

Following a tip-off, troops of 195 Battalion (Rear), working in conjunction with other security agencies, conducted a search operation within the forest, leading to the successful rescue of the victim. The troops also neutralised three kidnappers and recovered three locally fabricated guns, nine cartridges and other sundry items.

The rescued victim was promptly evacuated to a hospital for medical attention and is responding to treatment. The recovered items have been handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS), while the corpses of the neutralised kidnappers are in the custody of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

The Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, will sustain intelligence driven operations to dismantle kidnapping networks, deny criminal elements safe havens and safeguard communities.

The operation also reinforces ongoing efforts to strengthen security, protect citizens and prevent criminal elements from exploiting forested areas to threaten lives and public safety.
