Police Arrest , Cultist, Recover Firearm During Stop and Search in Lagos
Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspected cult member and recovered a locally made pistol loaded with a live cartridge during a routine stop and search operation in the Ijaiye and Ojokoro area of the state.
Police said the suspect, identified as 27 year old Yusuf Lamina Adigun, was apprehended after officers intercepted a motorcycle carrying three passengers.
During a search, officers allegedly recovered a locally made pistol loaded with one live cartridge from the suspect.
According to the police, the suspect admitted during preliminary interrogation that he is a member of the Eiye Confraternity. He also allegedly told investigators that he and other members of the group, who escaped arrest, were on their way to carry out an attack before they were intercepted.
The suspect remains in police custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and recover any additional weapons linked to the group.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the command's commitment to intelligence led policing and proactive operations aimed at tackling cult related violence and other crimes across the state.
He also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support crime prevention and public safety.
